Gulbaru Leaf Tailed Gecko
I chose the Gulbaru leaf tailed Gecko as part of a series of artwork depicting the flight of flora and fauna of Queensland that are on the endangered or critically endangered species list that is mainly due to habitat loss.
I personally hope that by viewing my art people will come to appreciate our wildlife and help to save these precious species from extinction. Thankyou
Kevin Young’s Auto biography
Kevin Henry Young is a self-taught realism artist who works predominantly in graphite and charcoal, but also in watercolours and acrylics. Kevin was born in Johanesburg South Africa and as a young teen Kevin and his family went on a 3-month safari through the national parks of South Africa. This gave him an intense desire to capture the essence of nature, particularly the minute details that is so often overlooked. After Kevin’s family immigrated to Australia where he grew up in the working-class suburbs of West Melbourne, Kevin was considered an outsider and so he would explore Fringine Bushland near his home, collecting lizards and other small creatures, it was during these forays into nature that Kevin started to see the relationships between light shadows and colour variations. In secondary school his art teacher acquired one of his works for their own collection. Over the years Kevin sold works to the Dept of Environment, clients in China and England. As often happens life took a turn and Kevin forcibly retired from his trade due to ill health, it was then that Kevin took his hobby and pursued it in a more professional way. Kevin is currently working on putting together a collection of works for his first exhibition titles “Birds” Kevin’s work can be viewed at the Australia Gallery in Cairns.
