APY Lands
The Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands in South Australia are home to a thriving community of Aboriginal artists whose works are deeply rooted in cultural heritage and family tradition. At Australia.Gallery, we are honoured to showcase paintings by several talented artists from this region, including Rini Tiger, Megan Lyons, Casseyanne Woods, Alison Lionel, and Venita Lionel — all connected by blood, Country, and story.
Rini Tiger
Rini Tiger was born in Pukatja (Ernabella) in 1964 and is the daughter of the respected senior artist Kunmanarra (Tiger) Palpatja. Her practice draws on a rich cultural inheritance, often focusing on the Ngintaka Tjukurpa (Perentie Lizard Dreaming), which holds great significance for her family and community.
Megan Lyons
A granddaughter of Tiger Palpatja and daughter of Rini Tiger, Megan Lyons was born in Amata in 1990. She continues the family tradition, exploring ancestral stories through her own vibrant visual language. Megan began painting after moving to Adelaide, working with other APY artists to bring traditional stories into new urban contexts.
Casseyanne Woods
Casseyanne is an emerging artist and the granddaughter of senior Pitjantjatjara Elder and artist Maringka Baker. Her mother, Elaine Woods, is also a well-known painter. Casseyanne grew up surrounded by art, and her practice reflects this strong family influence. Along with her sisters, she is helping to carry their Dreaming stories forward.
Alison Lionel
Born in 1983 in Alice Springs, Alison Lionel is a third-generation artist from Ernabella. Her mother, Yurpiya Lionel, and grandmother, Pantjiti Lionel, are both respected artists. Alison works across mediums, including painting and ceramics, and her art often reflects the desert landscapes and plant life she observes on Country.
Venita Lionel
Venita is part of the fourth generation of artists in the Lionel family and has been painting since she was a young girl. Born in 1998 in Pukatja, she paints alongside her mother, Rachael Mipantjiti Lionel. Together, they share and preserve the stories of their ancestors while contributing fresh perspectives through contemporary colour and composition.
These artists represent more than individual talent — they are part of strong artistic lineages that pass knowledge and cultural identity from generation to generation. Their works are a powerful testament to connection, storytelling, and place.
Australia.Gallery is proud to offer original paintings from each of these artists and more, with a wide selection available for collectors, curators, and interior designers alike.
