Biography
Pete is an artist whose work encompasses many subjects especially wildlife, seascapes, portraiture, and animals. Her Major New Works are now signed under her married Name “Pete Marshall”.
Her work, though mainly paintings in pastel, also includes graphite, coloured pencil, ink, charcoal, acrylic and oil. She has fulfilled many commissions including stamp design for Australia Post, poster design for Australian Platypus Conservancy, book jackets, work for the RSPCA Wildlife Calendar, and a mural at the Royal Melbourne Showgrounds.
A Signatory Member of Artists For Conservation , The Australian Guild of Realist Artists and The Society of Animal Artists USA, Pete has served as Exhibition Director for the Wildlife Artists Society of Australasia, and is currently Senior Art Advisor of the Art Advisory Council to the Board of the Wildlife Art Museum of Australia (WAMA) Foundation.
Travelling the world to research material for her work, Pete has donated images to various conservation issues for their promotion and fund raising, including the Jane Goodall Institute in Uganda, “Africat” in Namibia, Loro Parque Foundation ( Parrots ) in Tenerife, Wildlife SOS in India, Dingo Discovery and Westpac Bank in support of the CFA.

Often quoting two inspirational and meaningful writings –
“I have learned to look on nature … and I have felt a presence that disturbs
me with joy of elevated thoughts … of something far more deeply
interfused ….” William Wordsworth
“Our ability to perceive quality in nature begins, as in art, with the pretty.
It expands through successive states of the beautiful to values as yet
uncaptured in language – as yet beyond the reach of words. “ Aldo
Leopold (ecologist)
Pete is a retired veterinarian who has had a lifelong passion for wildlife, wild
places and wildlife art. She is always very generous with her willingness to give
her time and energy to volunteering for a multitude of tasks involving people and
wildlife, and to assist others in achieving their goals, often by using her special
artistic talents. This has been and still is frequently in the form of donation of
paintings and or their copyright.
Pete researches her own material for her subjects and this has taken
her to destinations around the world – all the continents of Africa, North South
and Central America, Europe, Asia, Antarctica and of course Australia – visiting
wild places and rescue, research and rehabilitation establishments along the
journeys.
Her aims are to interpret and celebrate the beauty of the wildlife, the people
and the environment in her artwork, and share this beauty while bringing
environmental and conservation issues to the public view.
Her subjects are as varied as her travels – from albatross to zebra, from
market traders in Uzbekistan to children in Ethiopia, mountains in the Himalayas
and wild seas in Antarctica, and of course the timeless land, seas and wildlife
which is uniquely Australian.
I am confident that many would acknowledge Pete’s selfless efforts in the
area of volunteering, wildlife rescue and conservation ( which she does with
compassion and yet judgement ) , and now as one of Australia’s leading wildlife
artists with involvement in Australia and around the world, who has given of
herself to help others, and who is raising the profile and is extending and
encouraging the scope of the wildlife art movement as a whole.
