Clarise Tunkin: Pitjantjatjara Artist

Clarise Tunkin, born in 1993 in Alice Springs, NT, is a talented Pitjantjatjara artist from the Kanpi community. Coming from a family with a strong artistic tradition, including her great-grandfather Jimmy Baker, mother Teresa Baker, and grandmother Kay Baker, Clarise began painting in 2012. Her work, influenced by her family and the Pitjantjatjara creation stories, reflects the landscapes and cultural ties of the APY Lands.

Her art has been featured in major exhibitions, including the Telstra National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Awards (NATSIAA), and her works are in collections such as the Monash University Collection. Clarise’s solo exhibition in 2018 marked her growing presence in contemporary Aboriginal art, where she continues to share her stories through bold, vibrant painting.
