📐 102 cm x 94 cm
🎨 Acrylic on Canvas

Warlimpirrnga Tjapaltjarri, born circa the late 1950s, is one of Australia’s most celebrated Aboriginal artists and a member of the iconic Pintupi Nine—a family group that lived traditionally in the Gibson and Great Sandy Desert regions with no contact with the modern world until 1984.

The son of Papalya Nangala and Waku Tjungurrayi, and brother to fellow artist Yukultji Napangati, Warlimpirrnga’s upbringing as a nomadic hunter-gatherer deeply informs his visual storytelling. His paintings are hypnotic and spiritually charged, echoing the ancestral Dreaming and sacred sites of his people.

Signature Style

His work features optical landscapes that shimmer like a mirage—layered dot lines, complex patterning, and undulating movements that evoke the spiritual energy of the Pintupi Dreaming. These meticulously painted designs reference sacred sites and Tingari creation stories, forming a bridge between ancient traditions and modern abstraction.
