Dr Pete Marshall, BVSc, AFC, AGRA, CPSA, SAA
Born in UK, and qualifying at Liverpool University, Pete has owned successful veterinary practices in both UK and Australia. After retiring from practice, Pete developed her new passion and career in art specializing in wildlife and environmental works.
Recently retiring as Coordinator of the Arts Advisory Council to the project to develop the Wildlife Art Museum of Australia, Pete remained as their Senior Art Advisor representing them at the National Conference of Regional Galleries, and the Guild of Scientific and Nature Illustrators Conference from USA. Currently she is curating their national virtual exhibition.
Inspiration Wild: Foundation Artists 6 Years On.
An active member of the international group, Artists For Conservation, based in Canada, Pete serves as a global ambassador and Chair of the AFC Advisory Committee for International Strategic Cooperation. In 2019
she was involved in the opening of their International Exhibition at Lanwan Art Park, Qingdao, China.
Pete has gained major acknowledgement in the art world of Australia and overseas, being recognized with Signatory Membership of Artists For Conservation Canada, Society of Animal Artists USA, The Colored Pencil Society of America and The Australian Guild of Realist Artists. Some of her major awards include: Best in Show Wildlife Artists Society of Australasia; commission with Australia Post; Australia Day Award for Services to
Art; Best in Show Cairns Art Society 3 years, amongst many other awards. Internationally her work has been accepted by juries for Birds in Art USA,( 8 times) Society of Animal Artists USA, Artists for Conservation Canada(9 times); Colored Pencil Society of America, Artists Info UK, and been published in Strokes of Genius USA, Richeson Bird, Animal and Wildlife Art, Australian Geo Art Calendar and cover designs for Australian Veterinary Journals among others.
In 2015 she was invited as Guest Artist to the inaugural International Bird Festival in Uttah Pradesh, India where she presented a work to the Chief Minister. Recently her work is among that featured in Feather and Brush : a History of Australian Bird Art (2nd Edition ) written by Dr Penny Olsen and published by CSIRO.
Enjoying traveling to the wilderness areas of the world to research material for her art specializing in wildlife and the environment, Pete has visited many of the conservation projects in these remote places and is
happy to donate art work to them for their promotion and fund raising. Places such as the Jane Goodall Foundation in Uganda, Polar Bears International, Canada, The Tiger Project India and The Loro Parque Parrot Foundation in Tenerife. Closer to home, Dingo Discovery, The OrangUtan Foundation International (Australian Branch), Eyes For Africa ( an Australian venture for cataract surgery in Ethiopia ), Korrorook Wildlife Rehabilitation and Conservation Centre of Northern Australia, and road signage for Cassowary awareness in Bingil Bay have all benefited from Pete’s art in their fundraising.
Her work hangs proudly in Governmental, Municipal, Corporate and private collections in Australia, India, China, USA, and UK among others and new works are sought after by faithful collectors.
